Murder of democracy at Goa ! Did anyone say Aah?

Dear All,

After the Murder of Democracy at Goa and the throne usurped for unscrupulous intentions there is a need for serious rethinking and deep rooted reforms in this organisation. If decisions are to be taken back door and imposed upon the entire organisation then we should rather move to rename this body (ICA) as the INDIAN CASKET ASSOCIATION. Where decisions are brought out from a casket and thrust upon the entire house.

Where some people's bloated ego is large and inflated enough to let it crush and walk upon the bare chests of masses, brutally crushing their rights to even say Ah!. I am peeved and so should be every law abiding & sensible member of the association for despite the UNANIMOUS NEGATIVE VOTE of the house the top functionary of the association is declared ‘elected’. This reflects upon us too, not only as the members of this now nondescript organisation but also as citizens of this largest democracy of the world.

After seeing such throne usurping exercise at 63rd Annual Conference of ICA at Goa, I feel reminded of the brutal middle ages where kings were murdered for grabbing power to be further murdered and conspired by another one ... and this process continues. The recent Moughal history is an adequate testimony to it.

In the very first year of adopting a written constitution (which incidentally took 63 years), we witnessed bloodshed of a different order. Even though the now adopted constitution envisages a democratic setup in the organisation, all attempts to silence the common voice were made - including the nasty proposal to perform feticide on this vibrant medium of communication - the e-ica google group.

By any means it was not a silent coo. It was a roaring one. A noisy, nasty, undemocratic, authoritarian, repressive and bloody coo. Where democracy was butchered and people's wish tarred into pieces so miniscule – never to be ever seen. Where the KING'S procession walks over the corpses of his subjects –to be. It also creates a piquant situation where the king has virtually no subjects to rule over – as all are dead by the time king emerges victorious. The DRUM BEATS of the victory procession are too loud to leave any room for the last voices of those who might be alive and lying wounded in the battle field.

This even reflects upon as the flag bearers of the society in general. I am now able to fully understand that how goons, criminals, mafias and all anti-social people are able to reach the parliament, make laws, levy taxes on us (which they themselves never intend to pay), and leave the battle field alive to kill any and all voices of dissent. While we just do the proverbial coffee table lip-service. Didn't democracy allow us the legitimate right to elect our fate deciders? But someone did rightly say that in democracy we get the government we deserve. Possibly, INDIAN CASKET ASSOCIATION deserves this. It is fit to be led by such unpopular throne grabbers.

Being democratic and republic also implies that the command of the masses is reflected in all forms of decision making and conversely the reflection that it is our government. I wonder if we will be able to say that atleast for the next one year.

I believe that traditions should not be allowed to stand in the way of law and the intent of the General Body. Its time all sane members of the association rise to tide over traditions which are retrograde.

Its time we introspect and kept organizational integrity above the personal highhandedness of individuals.

Regards,

SACHIN AGARWAL
